Vortex 12D Motion Theatre
đ Queenstown, Otago
12D motion cinema with moving seats synchronised to films, plus separate VR experiences. Ages 5 and up. Staff are helpful for first-timers. VR sessions consistently rate higher than the main theatre attraction.
Went to the 12D theatre today and it was awesome. The movies themselves are amazing and the staff were so lovely and generous.
đ Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children aged 5â10 who haven't experienced VR or motion cinema before. First-timers tend to enjoy it; children familiar with modern gaming visuals will find the 12D graphics underwhelming. Prioritise the VR session over the 12D theatre for better engagement. Treat it as a 30â45 minute activity rather than a main event.

âDid the 12D theatre and Omni VR. Bit underwhelmed by 12D, but the VR was a lot of fun and very immersive! Nice staff who were very helpful and friendly.â

âQuite fun! A few are really similar too each other though.â

Overview
Vortex 12D Motion Theatre runs moving-seat cinema sessions synchronised to short films, alongside separate Omni VR experiences. Staff are praised for being generous and helpful with newcomers. Reviewers who tried both rate the VR as significantly more immersive than the 12D theatre. The 12D film graphics draw repeated criticism for feeling dated â one reviewer compared them to a 1990s console game. Located in central Queenstown for easy access.
